From the creator of Yellowstone, a singing competition series? Please sign us up. CBS said at the end of 2024 that Taylor Sheridan would be collaborating with country music sensation and former judge of The Voice, Blake Shelton, in bringing an intriguing new singing competition show, The Road, to life—and he isn’s not the only familiar face you could expect to see! Check out all we know about The Road; the show is scheduled to launch on CBS this fall and stream on Paramount+.

‘The Road’ will be about what?

One starring superstar (keep reading to find out who!) will travel with Shelton on The Road in search of the next great musician, but this is not your usual singing competition series with glittering sets and flashy presentations. Rather, candidates will accompany the headliner and perform at events all throughout the nation as their opening act. They have to work with the local fan bases in the locations they are touring in addition to bringing their all to the stage and proving they have what it takes to be the next great thing. By accomplishing this, they stand a chance to stay in the tournament and advance to the following road stop.

“No more shiny floors and studio audiences,” Sheridan said of the program. “This is literally the junction of the rubber and the road. Get in the van, drive to the next town and wow the audience. Do it enough, and you start down the road of leadership. Clearly simple.

Attached to “The Road” will be who?

Headlining together with Blake Shelton is Australian-American country music sensation Keith Urban. Renowned for classics like “Blue Ain’t Your Color,” “Somebody Like You,” “St Stupid Boy,” and many more, his decades of industry experience qualifies him as the ideal mentor for these young musicians.

“I love the concept of putting artists into a real-world environment, to find out if they have what it takes,” Urban remarked. “Paying your dues sucks, but there are many skills that just cannot be taught, like how to put together a set list, whether to extend or cut a song during your performance or how to manipulate the audience. Traveling has always been my first passion, hence this show is about what happens after you leave the glittering TV production.

As the “tour manager,” fellow country star Gretchen Wilson will also be joining this trio to help the contenders travel to the top.
