Why they can't wait for Aaron Rodgers
Rodgers takes his time and prioritizes family. Charles Robinson said Rodgers was clear that he's dealing with personal concerns, especially within his immediate circle, which is why he's delaying his decision about playing football next season.
No commitments to teams, and Steelers shouldn't wait. All three hosts believe that Rodgers' personal life is his business, but it puts teams like the Steelers in danger. Charles and Frank say the Steelers “can’t count on this situation anymore.”
For the first time yesterday, Frank said, "They can't." They must move on.” Even if Rodgers signs, Charles says Pittsburgh should choose a rookie quarterback because relying on him is too uncertain.
Rodgers advised the Steelers to "do what you gotta do." Charles and Frank note that Rodgers told the Steelers to move on without him. This tells the hosts that Rodgers isn't committing or setting timetables for joining a team.
Charles concludes: “He did open up that avenue to them... if somebody wants to move on, that's just how it's going to go and you're okay with it.”
It appears Rodgers may not play. The group says Rodgers, albeit keeping the door open, sounded like someone who might not play for now.
Teams can't build around his hesitancy. For the hosts, any team considering signing Rodgers must continue their summer planning as if he won't be there. Fitz and Schwab said teams and fans are “exhausted” by the Rodgers story.
