F1 Qualifying Results: Max Verstappen loses

With Lando Norris on pole and Oscar Piastri on the first row in Australian Grand Prix qualifying, McLaren set a big example.

Verstappen and his Red Bull team turned their weekend around overnight, finding speed out of nowhere to move up to the front and punish his competitors' errors.

After being off the pace all weekend, Liam Lawson was eliminated from qualifying in his maiden session as a senior Red Bull driver.

After setting the 16th and 17th quickest times in FP1 and FP2, the Kiwi driver was sidelined for much of FP3 with a power unit problem and drove his twitchy Red Bull poorly, finishing 18th on the grid.

After being passed over for promotion to the Red Bull senior squad during the winter,

Yuki Tsunoda parked his Racing Bulls vehicle fifth on the grid, alongside Alex Albon and ahead of both Ferraris.

Ollie Bearman's terrible weekend continued as he radioed his crew about a gearbox trouble and pitted before his outlap.

After crashing in FP1 and being forced out of FP2 due to damage, Bearman spun on his first flying lap in FP3 and spent the session in the garage.

The worst five drivers are removed after Q1 and five after Q2.

A duel amongst the last 10 drivers for front-row spots follows in Q3.
