Ex-Ohio State: $135 Million Superstar Creates Head Turn with Release

SPORTS

Although NFL free agency hasn't really started, Ohio State Buckeyes superstar Joey Bosa is among the most sought-after prizes available following a major Los Angeles Chargers move on Wednesday.

Having 13.5 sacks and 21 tackles for loss in the 2014 season, Bosa was among the Ohio State team's studs that claimed the National Championship. He ended his Buckeye career with 51 tackles for loss and 26 sacks.

Bosa has regularly produced that kind of quality for the Chargers while healthy; yet, they decided to dismiss the edge rusher, effectively terminating their time together after nine seasons.

Originally selected third overall in the 2016 draft, Bosa signed a five-year, $135 million contract with the Chargers in 2020. This arrangement was then changed to essentially result in a two-year, $40.3 million contract last summer.

Next year he would have been a free agent, but the Chargers decided to preserve roughly $25 million in cap space by acting this year instead.

Signing Bosa carries a lot of risk, and it might restrict the amount he is able to command as a free agency. At 29 and with a mixed injury history that has only seen him play a full regular season twice in his career.

Bosa may be a very smart addition, though, for a contender who can rotate him to maximize his amazing talent without taxing his body too much.
