Aaron Rodgers provided path for Brett Favre to pursue career change.

Aaron Rodgers might find himself copying his former friend Brett Favre, in what would be one of the strangest coincidences in NFL history.

“”

Designed to be Favre's replacement for the Green Bay Packers, Rodgers and the Hall of Fame quarterback spent three years together in Wisconsin prior to the former declaring his retirement at the end of the 2007 season. Favre would then decide he wanted to go back to Green Bay and unretire.

Instead, the quarterback who won the Super Bowl with Green Bay was informed the Packers were progressing from Favre to start Rodgers, who also won a Super Bowl with Green Bay 2010. After being traded to the New York Jets, Favre spent one season before retiring from the Packers divisional rivals.

And today, there's a possibility that historical events will recur. Two years after Rodgers left Green Bay in 2023, his tenure with the New York Jets came to an end. Now, it has been said the former Packers great might be a "dark horse" to sign with the Vikings this offseason when free agency opens.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport has described the knock-on effects deal might have across the league after word of the Las Vegas Raiders trading for Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith leaked.

“”

Rapoport said on X, "With Geno Smith headed to the #Raiders, the fallout is dramatic: — The #Seahawks turn their attention to Sam Darnold, which means.. — The #Vikings time with Darnold is likely over as they turn their eyes to Daniel Jones, though..."

He carried on: "Daniel Jones has choices; among them are Minnesota and the #Colts. Aaron Rodgers lurks, thinking of the Giants with the Vikings as a black horse. While the #Jets and others show interest, Justin Fields has a solid market while the #Steelers try to re-sign him."

Regarding true Super Bowl contenders, signing with Minnesota would seem the most logical if Rodgers wants to honor his legacy more with another title ring. J.J. McCarthy was picked by the Vikings in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft; but, the Michigan quarterback meant to be their starting missed the whole season last year.
