Authorities have named Vance Luther Boelter, 57, as the prime suspect in a deadly series of politically motivated shootings in Minnesota. Boelter is accused of fatally shooting State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband at their Brooklyn Park home, and seriously injuring Senator John Hoffman and his wife in Champlin.
Boelter, a former appointee to Minnesota’s Workforce Development Board under Governor Tim Walz, is believed to have impersonated a police officer while carrying out the attacks. Investigators say he wore a creepy latex mask and left behind a “manifesto” and a hit list of over 70 names — including top Democratic leaders and abortion providers.
Law enforcement sources say the shootings may be tied to Boelter’s extreme anti-abortion beliefs, as both targeted lawmakers were outspoken supporters of reproductive rights. Flyers with the words “No Kings” and a Father’s Day card were also found in his vehicle, alongside a cache of ammunition.
Boelter remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous. A statewide alert has been issued as police intensify their manhunt.
