Thursday’s executive order signing by President Donald Trump on disbanding the U.S. Department of Education marks good on a signature campaign pledge execution. Trump has called the department corrupt and influenced by liberal objectives ineffective.
The order’s directive to DOE Secretary Linda McMahon “to take all necessary steps to facilitate the closure (of) the Department of Education and return education authority to the States, while continuing to ensure the effective and continuous delivery of services, programs, and benefits on which Americans rely,” a briefing from the White House detailed.
“Today, we take a very historic action that was 45 years in the making,” he told the signing ceremony crowd. He underlined that both Republicans and Democrats understand this is the “correct” action the US should take.
“My administration will take all authorized actions to close the Department; we will close it as fast as feasible. Not doing us any good,” he remarked before signing the decree.
People observed a mark on Trump’s hand during the event as the cameras focused on the president, which might have resembled a bruise seen previously this year.
Following one’s visibility at a meeting with French President Macron, white house press secretary Karoline Leavitt earlier addressed the bruising.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt claimed last month, “President Trump has bruises on his hand because he’s constantly working and shaking hands all day every day”. Still, it was unclear if the original bruise had vanished or if this was a fresh one.
Established as a Cabinet-level organization by Congress in 1979, the department won’t shut its doors right away with Trump’s signature. Complete dismantling of it would need Congress acting.
