Following the 27-year-old signed a one-year contract with the Las Vegas Raiders, Tom Brady will be reunited with one of his former Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tom Brady will be seeing a former colleague once more: Devin White.
Brady signed with the Buccaneers in 2020 following his first 20 years of service with the New England Patriots due to a natural conflict developing between him and Coach Bill Belichick. Brady guided the Buccaneers to a Super Bowl championship in his first year in Tampa Bay, their first in almost twenty years.
Among those accompanying Brady was White, the linebacker picked No. 5 in the 2019 NFL Draft. White allegedly would be seeing Brady once more on Friday, this time with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Though the specifics of the pact were not disclosed, NFL insider Jordan Schultz claimed the 27-year-old had accepted a one-year contract with Las Vegas. White will also be reunited with Raiders General Manager John Spytek, who first selected him for the Buccaneers.
Joining the Raiders gives White a fresh start and a means of rejuvenating his career. Though he was cut by the team on October 8 before he could play a game, the 27-year-old signed a one-year, $7.5 million contract with the Philadelphia Eagles in March 2024 after playing out his whole rookie contract with the Buccaneers.
White was signed by the Houston Texans on October 23 under a contract whereby he would play seven games, starting one. In his few outings in previous season, he recorded 19 tackles.
Brady is a minority owner, although his great presence on and off the field gives him great influence on Raiders decisions. Brady’s seven-time Super Bowl champion perspective on assembling a competitive squad should not be overlooked.
Said otherwise, the Raiders have signed one of Brady’s old colleagues before. Following Alex Cappa’s release from the Cincinnati Bengals, who played with Brady and White on the Super Bowl-winning team, Las Vegas signed offensive lineman early in March.
Cappa shielded top quarterback Joe Burrow admirably for two seasons following Super Bowl victory before his play dropped last season and led to his departure. Sometimes, though, Brady’s influence is insufficient to persuade a player to sign with his side; Matthew Stafford is a shining example of this.
With his contract keeping Stafford in Los Angeles for the 2025 season, the star quarterback chose to go back to the Los Angeles Rams even if the Raiders were intrigued in his talents. The two sides will always examine the matter every year to decide on the greatest course of action, which can cause Brady and the Raiders to approach Stafford once more.
