Pune News: PMPML Bus Fare Hike Shocks Commuters — Ticket Prices See Steep Increase After a Decade

Pune: Daily bus travel in Pune just got costlier. For the first time since 2014, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has officially announced a sharp hike in bus fares, doubling the minimum ticket price and increasing the rates for daily and monthly passes.

As per the revised structure, the minimum fare has been increased to ₹10, up from the previous ₹5. Daily pass rates within Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad limits have jumped from ₹40 to ₹70. Commuters traveling in PMRDA zones will now pay ₹150 instead of ₹120 for a daily pass. The monthly pass, which previously cost ₹900, will now set commuters back ₹1500.

According to PMPML officials, these revised rates will be implemented within the next 15 days after necessary system updates in ticketing machines. This decision comes almost a decade after the last fare revision in December 2014.

New Fare Structure Highlights:

Distance (in km) New Fare (₹)
0 – 5 km 10
5.1 – 10 km 20
10.1 – 15 km 30
15.1 – 20 km 40
20.1 – 80 km (in stages) Slab-wise hike

PMPML has introduced 11 travel slabs, structured to simplify understanding and ensure fare accuracy. The updated system will also be compatible with e-ticketing and National Common Mobility Card services, making travel more seamless for passengers.

Importantly, there is no fare increase for students, senior citizens, and differently-abled individuals. Monthly pass rates under the PMRDA scheme will also remain unchanged.

1,000 New Buses for Pune’s Fleet

In a major infrastructure boost, PMPML will soon procure 1,000 new buses. Of these, 500 will be acquired by the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporations, while the remaining 500 will be purchased by the PMRDA. This was confirmed during the recent PMPML board meeting, chaired by Pune Municipal Commissioner and PMPML Director, Dr. Rajendra Bhosale.

“The revised fare structure ensures better integration with Metro services and offers a more streamlined experience for both commuters and operators,” said Dr. Deepa Mudhol-Munde, Chairperson of PMPML.
