Pune: Chakan Sarpanch, Four Others Booked for Beating Worker and Pelting Shop Over Chicken Payment

Pune News: In Chakan’s Vahagaon locality on Monday, a routine chicken purchase turned violent when a migrant worker asked customers to settle their bill. According to the FIR lodged at Mahalunge Police Station, Sarpanch Dattā Anil Deshmukh of Deshmukhwadi village and four of his associates barged into Omkar Abhinath Deshmukh’s poultry shop.

After mocking the worker with lewd comments—suggesting he bring girls from West Bengal for cheap labor—they flew into a rage when he requested payment.

Witnesses say the group physically assaulted the shopkeeper and pelted the storefront with stones, shattering display cases and damaging cartons of chicken and eggs. The entire incident, which left the worker shaken but not critically injured, was captured on CCTV cameras installed nearby.

Based on Omkar Deshmukh’s complaint, police have registered charges against Sarpanch Dattā Anil Deshmukh, Nitin Shilimkar, Kiran Anil Deshmukh, Anil Rupaji Deshmukh, and Atul Ashok Deshmukh—all residents of Deshmukhwadi in Khed taluka. Investigators are reviewing footage and questioning bystanders as they build the case.

Local residents expressed shock that a village head would lead such an attack and are calling for swift justice. The Mahalunge Police have assured them of a thorough probe to ensure the safety of honest shopkeepers and migrant workers in the area.
