Olivia Livvy Dunne has officially announced the end of her gymnastics journey.

After her LSU Tigers team fell short of repeating as national champions earlier this month, Dunne’s gymnastics career came to a close. At 22 years old, she had one more year of eligibility but chose to step away after a remarkable career that began when she was just two years old. Her decision marks the end of an era, as she hangs up her leotard.

A Heartfelt Goodbye

Dunne shared a video with her followers, reflecting on her gymnastics career. The montage included footage from her early years, including memories from her toddler days and the moment she was accepted into LSU. As she narrated the video, the emotions were overwhelming, and she couldn’t help but shed a few tears.

She spoke about the journey, saying, “‘Time flies when you’re having fun’—that’s how it has felt over the past 20 years. The ups and downs, making the USA national team, and competing on behalf of our country… every moment was worth it.” She continued, “Finishing my career at the best university in the world has been an incredible experience, and I will be forever grateful.”

A Legacy of Love and Gratitude

“Gymnastics has filled my heart,” Dunne expressed, “It will always be a part of me. It has shaped me into the person I am today, fostering lifelong memories and sisterhoods that will stay with me beyond the sport. It was my first love.”

She concluded the video by reflecting on the passage of time, stating, “Yes, time flew by, but I will cherish every memory for the rest of my life. Thank you for everything, gymnastics. You treated me so well.”

Injury and Transition

Dunne had not competed since January 24 due to an “avulsion fracture of my patella,” which kept her from participating in further meets.

As one of the top NCAA athletes in name, image, and likeness (NIL) earnings, Dunne also gained a massive social media following, amassing millions of fans. Her role in helping LSU secure its first NCAA title last year remains a highlight of her career.
