New York— Hollywood icon Kevin Costner isn’t slowing down. In a recent interview with PEOPLE magazine, the award-winning actor and director made it clear that retirement isn’t on his radar, as he remains driven by passion and creativity rather than timelines or tradition.

“I don’t even think about retiring, because I’ll just move to the next thing that captures my imagination,” Costner said, emphasizing that his career has always been guided by what excites him, not external pressures.

Now 69, Costner reflected on his decades-long journey in the entertainment industry—from his breakout role in The Untouchables (1987) to Oscar-winning success with Dances with Wolves (1990), and most recently, his starring role in Yellowstone (2018–2023). He explained that he doesn’t keep a traditional “bucket list,” but instead follows projects that move him personally and have meaning for audiences.

“I’ve enjoyed imagining what I can do, what I can be about, and what makes a difference—not only to me, but to others,” he said.

Costner, whose film debut came with Sizzle Beach, U.S.A. in 1981, has remained a fixture in both film and television for over four decades. His filmography includes hits like Field of DreamsRobin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and The Bodyguard. He’s currently promoting his latest project, Horizon: An American Saga, and shows no signs of stepping away from the spotlight.

With his eyes “wide open and very big,” Costner says he still feels lucky—and motivated. “I’d like to think I worked for all of it,” he said. “But not everyone can live by the same blueprint.”
