DK Metcalf supposedly signing a $150 million contract after joining Steelers in trade from Seahawks.

Joining the Pittsburgh Steelers and signing a big new contract is DK Metcalf.

The Seattle Seahawks are sending Metcalf to the Steelers for a 2025 second-round pick according NFL Network.

Following his joining the Steelers, Metcalf will sign a five-year, $150 million deal extension. According to the source, the contract will continue through the 2029 season and comprise four more years and $132 million in fresh money. From his prior contract, Metcalf has one year and $18 million left.

Days after Metcalf apparently told the Seahawks he wanted to be traded, the agreement was reached.

Having been chosen with the second round of the 2019 draft, Metcalf has spent his whole NFL career with the Seahawks. He made two Pro Bowls in Seattle and was voted second-team All-Pros in 2020. He is 27 years old and is among the league’s top receiver in his prime; he will greatly improve Pittsburgh’s attack.

After second-year receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba surfaced as Seattle’s top receiving choice previous season, Metcalf asked a trade. Metcalf totaled 66 catches for 992 yards and five touchdowns in 2024 after straight seasons with 1,000-plus yards including his 2023 Pro Bowl performance (66 catches, 1,114 yards, eight touchdowns).

With 100 catches for 1,130 yards and six touchdowns, first-round 2023 pick Smith-Njigba led Seattle 2024. Comparatively to Metcalf, he was the targeted 137 times. It’s unclear if his trade request resulted from his diminished involvement.

Metcalf joins a Steelers squad unsure about his quarterback. Last season, Russell Wilson and Justin Fields split time at quarterback in Pittsburgh; both are expected to be free agents starting Wednesday of the new league year.

Though neither motivated much confidence while helming the league’s 27th-ranked passing attack in 2024, either may theoretically return on a new deal. Metcalf grew up playing three seasons of Wilson in Seattle.

The Steelers are expected to investigate a field of free agent quarterbacks comprising Aaron Rodgers and Sam Darnold. Following the Seahawks’ previous week Geno Smith trade to the Raiders, Metcalf’s old squad will also be on the market for a quarterback.
