Caitlin Clark's former partner puts the record straight on the 'untrue' Angel Reese dispute

Following a foul in the first “Unravelled” women’s basketball league, Caitlin Clark’s former Iowa Hawkeyes colleague and fellow WNBA standout Kate Martin has downplayed “untrue” rumours of a feud with Angel Reese.

During a 3v3 game between Martin’s Laces BC and Reese’s Roses, the now-Golden State Valkyries ace fouled the Chicago Sky standout. Reese fell badly from the foul, and social media went crazy about it. Unfounded rumors surfaced alleging the former LSU Tigers star wanted Martin kicked out of the Unrivaled league.

Reese’s long-standing conflict with Clark, with whom she had some fiery encounters throughout their college years, fed rumors. LSU beat the Hawkeyes in the season 2023. Reese was attacked by some as a result of the rumors; Martin jumped to her competitor’s defense, directly messaging an Instagram user who discussed the unfounded allegation.

“Hey man, that post about Angel wanting me out of Unrivaled is absolutely untrue,” Martin said in a direct message to the person. “I try to keep out of social media BS but I couldn’t let one slide pass. That kind of false information that is out there bothers me.

Martin has gotten compliments for standing up for Reese from internet users. “Kate is an actual person and angel is too! Love both of them,” one remarked. “Boss, Angel Reese gets enough ——– without all the misleading stuff spread out there on her. People like me countless others go so hard for her because of this,” another remarked.

“I appreciate you getting in touch @katemartin. Shows wonderful character,” a third remarked. The user Martin spoke with also apologies to Reese. “i def promise to do better in the future and make sure im 100% certain of things before i post them,” said the basketball Instagram page recruit.the.hood.

“I feel terrible but I would never post anything for hits and views. To be honest, I’m happy to die when only one person enjoys my work. I know my true fans will know, but today I was so sick that I was dumb enough to fall for mis-information.”

The same year that first-rounders Clark and Reese were drafted into the WNBA, Martin was also. Following her 18th overall selection, the 24-year-old spent the 2024 campaign at the Las Vegas Aces. She will now, however, be playing for the newest WNBA team, the Valkyries. Following last December’s WNBA expansion draft, Martin is hoping to be one of the Valkyries franchise’s faces. Once more working with Martin, former Aces assistant coach and Valkyries head coach Natalie Nakase will “I just call her coach Nat, so I’m gonna refer to her as coach Nat, if that’s alright,” stated Martin.

“But coach Nat and I kind of bonded over that in Vegas, of just, you know, needing to be ready to work, nothing’s handed to you, you earn sort of mindset. She is therefore exactly the kind of coach I would like to play for, and the kind of coach that, as I mentioned before, makes you want to sprint across a brick wall.
