New York — American Express has announced a sweeping refresh of its U.S. Consumer and Business Platinum Cards®, with updates scheduled to roll out later this year. The company says this marks its largest investment ever in a Card upgrade, aiming to elevate both the experience and value for cardmembers across generations.
According to Howard Grosfield, Group President of U.S. Consumer Services, the refreshed Platinum Cards will offer enhanced travel, dining, and lifestyle benefits. The update also includes a redesign of the card’s physical look and feel, tailored to the preferences of younger users such as Millennials and Gen Z — who accounted for 35% of U.S. consumer spending last quarter.
More Lounges, Better Travel Experience
As part of the upgrade, American Express will expand its airport lounge network by opening three new Centurion Lounges in Newark (NJ), Salt Lake City (UT), and Tokyo (Japan). These additions will bring the total number of Centurion Lounges to 32, reinforcing Amex’s position as the issuer with the broadest lounge access.
Currently, Platinum Card members can access over 1,550 lounges across more than 500 airports globally — more than any other credit card issuer.
Dining and Hotel Perks Get a Boost
Amex is also enhancing its dining and hotel programs. Through its Resy platform, the company already offers access to over 20,000 restaurants worldwide. The recent acquisition of Tock will add another 7,000 restaurants, wineries, and venues, significantly expanding reservation access for cardholders.
In the hotel space, Fine Hotels + Resorts® and The Hotel Collection will grow by hundreds of new properties in top global destinations. Platinum Card members can continue to enjoy exclusive perks such as guaranteed 4:00 p.m. late check-out at over 1,600 Fine Hotels + Resorts locations.
Business Platinum Card to Gain Practical Tools
Business users aren’t being left out. The Business Platinum Card will also see new features focused on helping companies grow. These include a flexible spending limit based on payment and credit history, business rewards, virtual card capabilities, and tools for managing cash flow.
Business Platinum members will also retain access to the same upgraded lounge, dining, and hotel benefits as consumer cardholders.
What’s Next?
In addition to new features, Amex hinted at future partnerships with leading global brands. More details are expected to be unveiled in fall 2025, with benefit rollouts continuing through the end of the year.
Aiming for a Premium Experience
With this overhaul, American Express is signaling a renewed commitment to delivering premium value and experiences. As competition in the luxury credit card space intensifies, these changes aim to strengthen Amex’s appeal to a diverse and evolving customer base.
