Aldi Slashing Prices on 400 Grocery Staples to Ease Summer Food Costs for U.S. Shoppers

Aldi Slashing Prices — In a bold move to help families tackle stubbornly high grocery bills, Aldi has announced it is cutting prices on over 400 grocery items across its 2,400 U.S. stores this summer.

The markdowns, which run through Labor Day, aim to provide some relief to American households still grappling with inflated food costs—many of which have risen by more than 28% since early 2020.

This year’s initiative marks a significant increase from 2024, when Aldi offered summer discounts on 250 items. Now, nearly a quarter of the store’s total inventory is being discounted, with some items slashed by up to 33%.

The campaign includes essential everyday items like milk, meat, snacks, soda, pancake mix, and fresh produce—all under Aldi’s signature private label brands.

Here’s a snapshot of some current markdowns:

  • Clancy’s Lime Potato Chips: $1.89 → $1.79
  • Friendly Farms 2% Milk: $4.39 → $3.89
  • Millville Protein Pancake Mix: $3.79 → $3.49
  • Mini Pizza Bagels: $6.29 → $5.99
  • Summit Popz Soda: $1.59 → $1.49

While individual discounts may seem small—typically ranging between 20 to 50 cents—Aldi estimates the total savings will add up to $100 million for American shoppers this year.

A Response to Soaring Food Costs

Food prices continue to weigh heavily on household budgets. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, grocery prices are up 2% year-over-year as of April 2025, with some items still significantly higher than pre-pandemic levels. A Pew Research study also found that 62% of U.S. adults say food cost is a critical factor when choosing what to buy.

Jason Hart, CEO of Aldi U.S., emphasized the importance of offering value as Americans head into the summer season:

“Our customers count on Aldi for the lowest prices of any national grocer, every day. We’re working hard to unlock even more value for our shoppers, just in time for summer holidays and gatherings.”

What Shoppers Should Know

The discounts apply primarily to Aldi’s own brand items, which make up the vast majority of its stock. While this means you won’t find name-brand items on markdown, Aldi’s house brands have gained a loyal following for delivering both quality and affordability.

With inflation continuing to pinch family budgets, Aldi’s price cuts are being welcomed by shoppers across the country. One parent shopping at a Cincinnati store said,

“Packing lunches and snacks every day adds up. Every bit of savings helps—especially during the summer when the kids are home.”

Whether you’re shopping for BBQs, school lunches, or weekly essentials, Aldi’s summer price drop could help American households stretch their budgets a little further this season.
