The acclaimed actor, 58, was on the show to promote The Phoenician Scheme, the new Wes Anderson-directed film that premiered May 31. In the film, del Toro plays Zsa-Zsa Korda, a wealthy businessman who unexpectedly names his daughter Liesl (played by Mia Threapleton), a nun, as the heir to his vast estate.

As the conversation veered into behind-the-scenes filming details, del Toro discussed the challenge of staying in character while filming submerged in a bathtub. “You get so into trying to figure out the riddle of getting it right that you just forget, and then the next day you’re all crinkly like a prune,” he shared.

That’s when Clarkson, 43, asked a seemingly harmless question:
“How do you not look like a prune by hour one?”

Del Toro playfully responded, “You get a good hair and makeup person to take care of it.”

The real laughter erupted when Clarkson, in an attempt to reference on-set continuity, added,
“Yeah, continuity … must have been real hard in that area, yes.”

The double meaning wasn’t lost on the audience—or Clarkson herself—who quickly caught the unintended innuendo.

“No, no, no!” she gasped, leaping from her chair. “I did not mean … I am way too tired. I meant you’re pruny. Nasty people!”

The room roared with laughter as Clarkson jokingly scolded her audience, adding to the fun, unscripted moment that fans have come to love from her daytime talk show.
