IPL 2025: Likely to Resume from May 16 or 17; Final on June 1 Amid Revised Schedule Talks

New Delhi, May 12 – After a week-long pause in the IPL 2025 season due to escalating tensions along the India-Pakistan border, the league is now likely to resume by May 16 or 17, according to BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla. The revised schedule could see the final pushed to June 1, possibly relocating from Kolkata to Ahmedabad due to weather forecasts.

The temporary suspension of the IPL came following military activity between India and Pakistan, which led to a nationwide alert and a brief ceasefire. In light of recent developments, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s strong national address on security and stability, the BCCI has begun reworking the IPL schedule.

A high-level meeting involving BCCI officials, IPL Governing Council members, and franchise representatives was held on Sunday. Rajeev Shukla confirmed that the scheduling process is actively underway, with announcements expected as early as Monday. “We’re closely studying match logistics and stakeholder availability. A final call will be taken soon,” Shukla said.

As per internal discussions, the Lucknow vs Bengaluru match, originally scheduled for May 9, could now mark the restart of the league. Teams with international players who had flown out of India have been asked to ensure their return by May 16 or 17.

The BCCI is coordinating with broadcasters, team owners, sponsors, and state associations to finalize venues and match timings. However, officials also acknowledged that resuming the league requires clearance from the central government, given recent security concerns. “We’re in constant touch with the authorities. Government approval is key,” said BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia.
