Following his recent relocation to the Los Angeles Chargers, Mekhi Becton has revealed that his mother is in great need of a new kidney and turned to fans on social media.

After revealing on social media that his mother needs a new kidney, Los Angeles Chargers guard Mekhi Becton has requested supporters for quick assistance.

Having won the Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles last season, Becton, 26, former New York Jets first-rounder has subsequently signed for the Chargers on a two-year, $20 million contract. Ahead of his debut season in Los Angeles under head coach Jim Harbaugh, who has been struggling with health concerns of his own, Becton addressed an important family matter and begged football fans for their help.

“PSA: Mom requires a kidney! Tell me if anyone can help, please! Becton composed on X. Though he also mentioned that Becton’s mother Semone’s blood type is B+, it is unclear what health issues she is dealing with.

Becton is close to his 46-year-old mother, a skilled chef with a Culinary Management degree from J Sargeant Reynolds Community College. One of Becton’s most ardent football fans, Semone even complimented former Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers for protecting her son in face of fan abuse.

After sustaining an avulsion fracture of his right kneecap, Becton was recuperating from a major injury in 2023, Rodgers’ first year with the Jets. Becton started 16 games that season, but as the club suffered he started getting nasty remarks from certain spectators. He also let a career-high for penalties called.

With clips of the pair hugging at the Jets facility posted on social media, Rodgers supported Becton and went beyond to make him feel significant. Semone noticed this act, and Becton spoke candidly about the matter on an ESPN interview.

“She (Semone) went up to him (Rodgers) and basically said him, ‘Thank you for having my son’s back,’ and stuff like that,’ Becton said. “And he was just like, “Mrs. Becton, I know how it is since I hug your son every day.” She also started to cry a little and they even hugged. So that was a fantastic moment, for sure.”

Although it delighted Becton’s mother, the guard valued the rapport he had developed with Rodgers. “I feel like having him as an ear, as a person that truly listens and I can actually vent to; he understands where I’m coming from,” he said. “It’s certainly been easy to chat to him and stuff like that.”

Before the next season began, Becton left the Jets and proved so outstanding in Philadelphia that he helped the Eagles win a Super Bowl. Originally not able to become a starter tackle, he developed into a vital right and started 15 games in their championship season.

The Eagles only offered Becton a one-year contract, but he finally “feels home” in Los Angeles despite having moved teams twice in as many seasons. “They’re a team that is rather close,” Becton remarked Tuesday during a press conference. “Has a lot of parts; they greeted me with wide arms. It was like home.

Becton’s choice was much influenced by playing under Coach Harbaugh, based on their past contacts. “He signed me in high school so we had already seen each other and knew each other,” Becton added. “That ice cracked already. It was like seeing a buddy long lost once more.

“He coaches tenaciously. He is a dog. He only wants to win; he doesn’t give any thought to anything. One can tell merely from his manner.”

After former Jets tight end Tyler Conklin signed with the Chargers, Becton also has a familiar face there. The seasoned tight end is eager to see what they can do next season and feels as though the entire team is in agreement already.

“Being here in the short amount of time I have been here, and on my visit the main thing that stuck out is the type of people in the building,” Conklin said Tuesday. “Whether it’s trainers, coaches, or above. Many rather outstanding people scattered all about. Everybody wants to be their best self and to improve.”
