Following the Aaron Rodgers choice by the Pittsburgh Steelers, Russell Wilson will be joining the New York Giants on a one-year contract valued up to $21 million, including $10.5 million guaranteed.
With a large pay raise, Russell Wilson will be playing for the New York Giants, a new franchise in the 2025 NFL season.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter said on Tuesday that Russell and the Giants agreed on a one-year contract possibly worth up to $21 million, including $10.5 million assured. Having signed a $1.21 million contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers prior to the 2024 season, the former Super Bowl champion’s new contract follows.
That excludes the money the Denver Broncos paid him after the team decided to cut him following just two seasons. Wilson’s 2024 total came to $39 million after the Broncos paid $37.79 million and the Steelers paid $1.21 million.
Wilson’s choice follows claims that Aaron Rodgers, instead of being brought back, was now the first choice for the Steelers. Rodgers lately visited the Steelers’ facilities and spoke with head coach Mike Tomlin and the rest of Pittsburgh’s coaching team.
The conference was said to have been “positive,” at the time, although no deal between the two parties seemed close. Wilson responded to learning of the Steelers’ new emphasis and successful meeting with Rodgers by posting his opinions on his relationship with the club on social media.
” uncompromising confidence. Always keep believing in you!” Wilson posted on social media apparently in regard to the quarterback’s belief the Steelers have lost faith in him. Notably, the Steelers also let Justin Fields walk; the signal caller signed with the New York Jets, the team that dropped Rodgers.
Now Wilson off the board, Rodgers is responsible for deciding what he will do. Although the four-time NFL MVP reportedly wanted to land with the Minnesota Vikings, the franchise reiterated its support of J.J. McCarthy as the starting next season, despite missing his whole rookie season with an injury.
